Wire Resistance Calculator

Wire resistance calculator allows you to quickly determine the electrical resistance of a specific wire. The resistance of a wire depends on its material and geometrical dimensions (length and diameter or cross-sectional area).

Wire resistance

This tool uses the following resistance formula:

R = ρ × L / A

where:

R – Resistance in Ω;
ρ – Resistivity of material in Ω·m;
L – Length of the wire;
A – Cross-sectional area of the wire.

If you know the diameter (D) of the wire its cross-sectional area (A) will be calculated as:

A = π / 4 × D²

This calculator allows to use American Wire Gauge to determine cross-sectional area of the wire.
