Serbian broadcaster completes DVB-T2 rollout with Rohde & Schwarz transmitters

04/13/2015

Emisiona Tehnika Veze (ETV) is the national broadcasting agency of the Republic of Serbia and offers nationwide radio and TV services. ETV operates more than 250 transmitter sites and is an important infrastructure provider for several telecommunications and broadcasting companies. To transition from analog to digital television, ETV had to update its transmitter network and make its nationwide digital transmissions DVB T2 compatible. The broadcast operator decided in favor of a consortium consisting of Rohde & Schwarz Austria, Kathrein and Comutel doo and tasked these companies with setting up three new multiplexers. Rohde & Schwarz is supplying 40 R&S THU9 high-power transmitters for 10 sites, 24 R&S TMU9 medium-power transmitters for six sites (each in 3+1 standby) and more than 240 R&S MLx and R&S XLx gap fillers. As a result, ETV operates the most energy-efficient systems currently on the market, reducing energy requirements by up to 42 %. That means drastically lower costs.

In 2010, Rohde & Schwarz was involved in the first phase of the DVB-T2 rollout and supplied around 70 transmitters. In 2013, the company won another tender for gap fillers designed to close network coverage gaps. The contract for the third phase was signed in December 2014. The fact that Rohde & Schwarz had already supported many countries as they transitioned to digital standards was of prime importance for the decision. ETV had also been a Rohde & Schwarz customer for many years and come to trust in the company's service quality.
