CES is the world’s largest mobile technology event12/23/2013 The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® announced that executives from mobile industry leaders AT&T, Ericsson and Qualcomm Inc. will participate in the FutureCast:Global Innovation of Mobile keynote panel at the 2014 International CES®. Owned and produced by CEA, the 2014 CES, the world’s largest mobile technology event, will run January 7-10, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The FutureCast keynote, slated for 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, in the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center (LVCC), North Hall, N255, will feature these top mobile executives sharing their perspectives on the future of mobile technology and the impact it will have on consumers’ lives. The address will be part of the Technology Innovators keynote series, a stage for big ideas that are reframing the way technology will impact our interaction with the world today, and in years to come. “Advancements in mobile technology are transforming the industry, and driving innovation at every level of society, from transportation and smart cities, to disruptive startups and the office of the future,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “We’re excited to welcome these visionary leaders to the CES stage to share their insights on these critical changes and the next big wave of mobile innovation.” The FutureCast panel underscores the strength of the mobile sector at CES. With more than 1,300 mobile and wireless exhibitors, new TechZones and dozens of conference sessions dedicated to mobile and wireless innovation, the 2014 CES is the world’s largest mobile technology event. Sales of mobile connected devices, namely smartphones and tablets, continue to drive industry growth. These devices will represent almost one third of industry revenue in 2013. Dramatic growth is on the horizon with 50 billion smart mobile devices expected by 2020. Moderated by Andrew Keen, host of “Keen On” from TechCrunch TV, the FutureCast keynote will explore how mobile technology is driving change in critical areas such as disruptive innovation, smart cities, transportation, healthcare and the workplace. FutureCast keynote panelists include: John Donovan is the senior executive vice president for Technology and Network Operations at AT&T Inc. He is responsible for AT&T's technology and global network including the company's best-in-class mobile broadband network. He previously served as chief technology officer for AT&T, overseeing the company's global technology direction and innovation road map. Under Donovan's leadership, the company has turbo-charged its innovation programs and is recognized as an industry leader in working with application developers and others to make AT&T's network open to collaboration. Hans Vestberg is president and CEO of Ericsson Group. Under his direction, Ericsson has become the main driver toward the “networked society” where connectivity fuels progress. Vestberg is a leading advocate of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, and for the potential of mobility and broadband to tackle some of the world’s most compelling issues such as poverty, health, education and climate change. He is a founding member of the Broadband Commission for Digital Development, where he chairs the task group on the post-2015 development agenda. Dr. Paul E. Jacobs is chairman and CEO of Qualcomm and a leader in the field of mobile communications for more than 25 years. He is a key architect of Qualcomm’s strategic vision and is responsible for leadership and oversight of all of the company’s initiatives and operations. Important developments under Dr. Jacobs include the first smartphone based on Palm OS®; inclusion of GPS capabilities in mobile phones; the Brew® system, enabling over-the-air downloading of applications; QChat, a voice over IP push-to-talk system; Mirasol®, a novel reflective display technology; and the Toq Smartwatch.
