Which century does “@” come from?

Which century does “@” come from? “@” sign wasn’t created especially for internet. This sign was used in Renascence period, XV-XVI centuries. In the Spain, Portuguese and French languages this symbol traditionally meant “Arroba” – weight measurement unit that equaled 12-13 kg (26-28 lb). Then “@” started being used in documentation replacing the preposition “at”. Since this sign was used in account documents it appeared on keyboards of the first typewriters. That was the place where Ray Tomlinson, researcher of American BBN Technology, found it while developing mailer which could help passing messages to the remote computer. Thus “@” became the symbol of e-mail.
